Seawater Intake
Seawater is drawn from the source (e.g., ocean) through an intake structure, often designed to minimize the impact on marine life.
Pre-Treatment
The impurities from the seawater (plastic, organic material, algae etc.) are removed at this stage to protect the integrity of the RO membranes.
Umkehrosmose
The pretreated seawater is pressurized and forced through semi-permeable membranes. This process separates the seawater into fresh water (permeate) and a concentrated salt stream (brine).
Post Treatment
The desalinated water (permeate) may undergo further treatment (ex.remineralization) to meet specific water quality standards.
Brine Management
The concentrated salt stream (brine) from the RO process needs to be managed to minimize its impact on the environment. This can be done through several processes such as dilution, or deep-sea discharge.
Wasserverteilung
The permeate water, after undergoing remineralization, will be distributed through a network of pipes, pumps, valves, and storage facilities to the consumers.
